Gestational Diabetes

I am 34 years old and in my 2nd pregnancy. My previous baby weights 4.09 kg at birth and normal.

I was recently was told that I had Gestational Diabetes after glucose blood tests. I had to be admitted to hospital for three days as my sugar level were way too high. After coming out of hospital I followed a diet which is helping me a lot and my baby, my energy levels are up and running again.

I eat correct food and I DO NOT SKIP A MEAL and have a snack in between. I would like to encourage those who have been diagnosed with GD to follow the doctors order for the sake of the mother and the baby.......

Scared to get pregnant again

Pregnancy has been a complicated thing for me. My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 12 weeks and my hopes were crushed. My husband and I then tried to get pregnant again and it took us about 6 months.

I got pregnant and had HORRIBLE morning sickness, I lost about 14 lbs over the first trimester. I had a pretty "normal pregnancy" the second trimester. At about 36 weeks my BP started to go up a little, so my doc had me checking it every few hours. I also went in at 38 weeks and had a 10lb weight gain in a short time (ALARMS SHOULD BE GOING OFF BUT THEY WEREN"T).

At 39 weeks I took myself to the hospital because I couldn't breathe just walking to the bathroom. My ankles did not exist, my face was swollen beyond recognition. The doc thought I had a pulmonary emboli but tests came back negative and my beathing was getting worse and worse but my baby girl was OK. I was then rushed to a major medical center (NO FRILLS BUT THE ONLY PLACE I"LL GO). The doc at the new hospital said we had to do an emergency C-section to make sure the baby would be OK. She was born without any complications and is perfect still today!

I however woke up in ICU on a ventilator apparently this was a sudden onset preeclampsia, no elevated protein ever in my urine (which is what the first docs were looking for). I was intubated because my lungs were FILLED with fluid. I was extubated and reintubated because I crashed. I finally made it off the vent but did not get to hold my beautiful baby girl until a week after she was born.

I left the hospital on heart medication and was taken off after a week. Also, I left the hospital weighting 60 lbs less than what I was admitted at. It was diagnosed with hypothyroid disease 6 months after delivering my daughter and I think that probably played a part in all the crap I went through during pregnancy.

My daughter will celebrate he 2nd birthday in March and I am so grateful to God for giving her to us. We want more kids but I have a lot of fear...please pray for our family and for wisdom to know the right thing to do.Thanks.

Oh ...my advice if your doctor doesn't listen to everthing you say, find one who will, I think some of this could have been prevented. It doesn't matter how pretty the birthing suites are if your doctor isn't going to listen to everything you have to say.

AFP test has me worried

I am a father of a healthy 2 year old. My wife who is 37 and 4 months pregnant just gave me the news that our AFT test came back showing 1/50 chance of Down Syndrome. We are going for an ultrasound tomorrow and we are both worried sick.

We pray for health and happiness and hope you will do the same.

Cholostasis

Just wanted to let you know I had cholostasis with my first daughter diagnosed at 30 weeks and delivered c-section at 37 weeks. I am pregnant again at 35 weeks and have been tested for cholostasis and it has been negative. So there is hope that you might not get it again. I am still being monitored because of developing gestastional diabetes, and the history of cholostasis. But, I was scared to get it again and so far so good, so there is hope!
